Lieutenant Colonel (U) Pengiran Haji Muhammad Yusri bin Pengiran Haji Sharifuddin enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in June 2002 and was commissioned as an officer in 2003 upon completing his training at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, United Kingdom.

Over the course of his career, he has held numerous key appointments. He began as a Troop Officer in 38 Squadron in 2006 and was appointed Troop Commander in 2007. In 2008, he resumed the role of Troop Officer and was deployed with the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in the Republic of the Philippines. In 2009, he served as the Administrative Officer for the Air Regiment, before taking on the role of Squadron Captain (Second-in-Command) of 38 Squadron in 2010. He was subsequently appointed Squadron Commander of 38 Squadron in 2013.

In 2014, he was assigned as the Intake Commander at the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces. He later became Deputy Chief Instructor of the Defence Academy in 2018. In 2019, he served concurrently as Staff Officer Grade 2 Administration (A1) in the Royal Brunei Air Force and as Deputy Head of Recruitment, before being promoted to Head of Recruitment in 2020. He currently serves as the Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet School at the Defence Academy, a position he has held since 2023.

Lieutenant Colonel (U) Pengiran Haji Muhammad Yusri has attended a wide range of professional military education and training courses both locally and abroad. These include Ground School at No. 3 Squadron, Royal Brunei Air Force in 2004; the Basic Flying Course (Fixed and Rotary Wing) in 2006; and the Air Defence Young Officers' Course at the Royal School of Artillery in Larkhill, United Kingdom in 2007. He also completed the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Junior Staff Course in 2011, the Command and Staff Course in 2018, and most recently, the Ministry of Defence Executive Development Programme in 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel (U) Pengiran Haji Muhammad Yusri is married to Siti Masnur Juraini binti Jini and together they are blessed with a son and two daughters.
